Women in (Geo)Sciences

The Virginia Tech Women in (Geo)Sciences group was founded in 2014. We meet monthly to discuss career development, the inevitable challenges at all levels of academia and to hear the stories of successful women from Virginia Tech and other universities.

As part of our group, I established the mentoring program to match up undergraduate with graduate students to create a way for undergraduate students to find a personal resource for advice on the next steps of their careers and to give graduate students experience as mentors.

Also, in association with the Virginia Tech Center for Communicating Science, I created a kindergarten outreach program that brings diverse STEM scientists from Virginia Tech to rural Virginia kindergarten classrooms to teach children about science and to introduce them to real life scientists.
